Scott McKinnon has been involved in art since he remembers picking up a crayon. Enjoying every art class throughout school, he had a commercial artist as an instructor for two years in high school as well as an excellent drafting teacher. In his spare time, he learned calligraphy, model building and produced stop-motion animated films.
Scott finished his Business Administration at Okanagan College and embarked in a career of graphic design, advertising and marketing. Gaining sales and creative experience in several media formats, he eventually became the art director at a commercial printing firm. In addition to his interest in visual art, Scott also is a part-time professional magician and has been performing for all types of audiences for upwards of 3 decades. Scott also enjoys “inventing” solutions for the world’s problems in his spare time.
In 2007 Scott participated in two medallion workshops with renowned sculptor Geert Maas and finally discovered a creative outlet for all his artistic aspirations. His first medallion, created for the “Spirit of Kelowna” public art project is permanently mounted in Kelowna City Hall. His second medal was accepted into the juried 2008 “Best of M.A.S.C.” exhibition by the Medallic Art Society of Canada held in Kelowna, B.C. (July 5, 2008 – September 5, 2008 at the Geert Maas Sculpture Studio & Gardens)
Scott recently joined the Kelowna Sculptor’s Network Society to further explore the allure of expressing his creativity through sculpture. Scott derives inspiration by observing his surroundings and transforming those images into art. He looks forward to creating many more artistic medallions and other art in the future.
